My approach begins with the student, because every meaningful decision grows from a clear understanding of who the student is and what matters most to them. This foundational work—clarifying identity, values, strengths, and patterns of engagement—becomes the substance of later strategy.

From there, we widen the lens and take a systems-level view. The college process is embedded within the broader high school experience—and is shaped by institutional priorities, national trends, regional differences, and evolving expectations. I teach families how the system works so decisions are grounded in reality rather than guesswork or pressure.

Together, we align the student’s goals with the system of admissions. We build an overall strategy—consider opportunities, acknowledge and work within both personal and structural constraints, and thoughtfully evaluate tradeoffs along the way.

The final dimension is helping students articulate their story—the throughlines of engagement, contribution, and growth that demonstrate authentic alignment with college communities. Applications become an extension of substance that students have taken the time to build.
